Hypnotherapy for Trauma
What Is Trauma?
According to the American Psychological Association, Trauma is an emotional response resulting from distressing events such as unexpected death, natural disaster, accident, or assault. Shock and denial usually follow an event immediately, followed by unpredictable emotions, contentious relationships, flashbacks, and even physical symptoms like fatigue and headaches. While these emotions are normal, some people have difficulty moving forward with their lives. Treatment can assist these individuals in learning constructive methods of handling their emotions.
When To Seek Treatment
Every person recovers from trauma differently, but if you haven’t seen any improvement after months have passed, you may need to seek help from a trauma expert.
If you find any of the following true for you, it may be time to seek help with your trauma:
- You have problems functioning at home or work
- Suffering from severe anxiety, fears, or depression
- Unable to form close, satisfying relationships
- You suffer from terrible memories, nightmares or flashbacks
- You increasingly avoid anything that reminds you of the trauma
- You are numb and have no contact with other people You use alcohol or drugs to make yourself feel better
Trauma Treatment
The psychological trauma produced by profound events or tragic events can cause us to feel helpless, alone, fearful, angry, sad, hurt, and guilty. They can also leave us feeling vulnerable and helpless. Trauma can be caused by a one-time event, chronic, relentless stress, childhood abuse (emotional, sexual and physical), and other acts or periods of abuse, such as rape or abusive relationships. Furthermore, the nature of trauma is such that the more helpless you feel in the face of the event, the more likely you are to become traumatised by it.
As a result of traumatic experiences in your life, later physical and emotional health may be affected. In some cases, you may not even be aware that past trauma is still affecting you today. Through hypnotherapy, we can process the trauma for relief from its effects. Unless the cause of the trauma is addressed, no amount of hypnotherapy or counselling can help. With hypnosis, I help you reconcile and move beyond past traumas you have experienced or are experiencing. Through hypnosis, we work together to help you deal with the trauma you may have experienced in the past or are experiencing now.
Hypnotherapy For Trauma
It is in the understanding that the events and experiences that have led you to me are likely still very raw, regardless of how long ago they occurred, that I approach trauma treatment in Johannesburg gently, sensitively, and caringly. With hypnotherapy, we work together by accessing your subconscious to heal the parts of you that experienced the shock and pain of your traumatic event, releasing and clearing the toxic and frightening messages that have been received.
Using specific hypnosis techniques, we will be able to dissipate its power while maintaining what has been learned, allowing you to move on as a resilient and confident adult — moving past the past and creating the life you deserve is a choice. And, of course, everything you share with me is treated with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.
