Employee stress remains at a record high, according to the State of the Global Workplace Report 2023 by analytics company, Gallup. While stress and burnout have been increasing steadily for a decade, the pandemic caused a significant spike.

The fallout of stress includes physical and mental health issues and stress is also partly fuelling the trend of quiet quitting. A term that emerged online in 2022, it describes the workplace phenomenon of doing the bare minimum to get by in a job.

The report found that more than half of global employees (59%) are quiet quitting, while 51% want to change jobs or are actively seeking new employment. For both groups, a major factor is the desire for improved well-being.

Despite more emphasis on employee wellness programmes, rising workplace stress indicates that more needs to be done.

The Destress Your Life Retreat empowers you to take charge of your own well-being, with a focus on identifying issues and applying solutions. You will be guided by certified hypnotherapist, life coach, mentor, transpersonal counsellor and breathwork practitioner Dr John Souglides (Ph.D.), who holds four Ph.D.s and has committed his professional life to helping his clients deal with stress, trauma and addiction, among other challenges.

Taking place at the peaceful Random Harvest venue in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg, the four-day, comprehensive programme includes the following themes:

  1. A holistic approach to the “self”:
    • Self-awareness to identify areas that need work and transformation
    • How to achieve self-mastery
    • Boundary setting – creating healthy boundaries, identifying what works and what doesn’t
    • Self-realisation as the key to healing
    • Tools for self-healing (including a discussion about self-hypnosis – fact or fiction?)
    • Healing all aspects of the self from conception through to adulthood, using the powerful approach of inner child work
    • Cultivating self-love and self-esteem and addressing obstacles (heart matters)
  2. The science of energy and the physical body:
    • Learn about the body’s energy systems
    • How negative emotions, such as shock, trauma, shame, guilt, anger, fear etc. become cellular memory
    • How negative emotions and stress cause disease and what to do to counteract this
    • Energy sabotages – how they are created
    • Energetic healing
  3. The power of the mind:
    • How your mind influences your body and your experiences
    • Using mindfulness techniques
    • Manifestation and intention setting – more than buzzwords, these are powerful tools
    • Understanding and utilising your full potential
